Who is Orlando Alamillo
Our Education Director

The RHR Gymkhana Board of Directors appointed Orlando Alamillo as our Education Director and assigned him the task of putting together an educational program which will offered to our youth be they RHR members or not.  Orlando is also putting together a program to assist non riding Boy (and Girl) Scouts who desire to earn their horsemanship Merit Badge.

Orlando comes from a rural background; his family is still currently involved in the agriculture industry raising both crops and livestock.  In high school he was part of the FFA (Future Farmers of America) where experience and knowledge about animals was gained.  After high school he attended Cal Poly Pomona and majored in Animal Science with an emphasis in Management.  During his years in College Orlando did a student exchange in New Zealand and spent a year living and going to school overseas. He then graduated from college with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Science.  After graduation he worked for an animal feed manufacturer as a technical sales representative.

Orlando’s horse experience comes from a variety of sources, he has had horses from about the age of 12 and since then he has had a multitude of experiences and formal training through lessons and riding clinics.   Orlando says his experience also comes from making every single mistake that anyone can make on and off a horse.  The majority of his schooling has come from a gentleman named John Bozanich (Boz), one of the last remaining certified Monte Forman instructors.   Orlando has ridden a variety of horses in various saddles, bits, and assorted equipment and has found that Boz’s method and philosophy of training fits Orlando’s program the best.

Orlando’s views and ideas are ones that have been gathered over the years and have helped him immensely and he hopes will do the same for you.  He welcomes questions relating to general horse health, riding, training, saddles, bits or anything that comes to mind related to horses. And if you are feeling really creative you can throw in questions about sheep, goats, cows and pigs.
